Fashion.

The word itself triggers a cascade of glamourous runway screenshots and video clips in our heads.

Inboxes are being flooded with emails displaying fancy GIFs, bold “BUY NOW” buttons, and time-based coupon codes, eliciting a sense of urgency, and subsequently (or even concurrently), anxiety and the classic millennial “fear of missing out” (FOMO).

Flashy advertisements from the big brands make it worse, constantly inundating us with offers and new product launches almost daily.

It wouldn’t be wrong to state that the “fast fashion” catastrophe has largely been propelled and continuously expanded exponentially due to these tactics.
